26,783 schools, colleges nationalized in 10 years

DHAKA, Jan 6, 2018 (BSS) – The government has nationalised 26,193 primary schools, 257 high schools and more than 333 colleges in different parts of the country to ensure quality education during the last ten years.

“The government also nationalized services of 1.42 lakh primary teachers and established 1,500 new schools and 19 residential schools in three hilly districts during the last ten years,” officials of the education ministry told BSS here today.

He said the government recruited 1,65,225 assistant teachers and 4,400 headmasters while the post of headmaster was promoted to second grade and salary of assistant teachers increased twice.

Besides, the government also allocated Taka 53,054 crore in the current financial year (2018-19), the ministry official said.

According to the ministry information, with the target of women empowerment, the government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina allocated 60 percent recruitment for female teachers.

A total of 5,27,798 teachers are engaged in the primary education sector and out of the total some 3,14,299 teachers are female, it said.

The government brought 35 lakh madrasa students into the main stream through equaling Daorae Hadid to master degree level of Kaumi madsaras.
