Nazmul Huda sent to jail in corruption case

DHAKA, Jan 6, 2019 (BSS) – A Dhaka court today sent former minister
Barrister Nazmul Huda to jail as he surrendered before it in a corruption
case.

Dhaka Special Judge Court-2 judge HM Ruhul Imran passed the order,
scrapping Huda’s bail plea in the case.

A special court in 2007 sentenced Huda to seven years imprisonment while
his wife Sigma Huda to three-year imprisonment in the case.

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on March 21, 2007, saying Huda took
Taka 2.40 crore as bribe from a businessman for awarding him five government
contracts. Sigma too was charged for aiding her husband in the graft.

The High Court in 2017 commuted Huda’s jail term to four years and released
the full text of its verdict on November 19, 2018. At that time, it asked
Huda to surrender before a lower court with 45 days.
