HT Imam urges people to exercise voting rights

DHAKA, Dec 29, 2018 (BSS) – Prime Minister’s Political Advisor HT Imam today called upon all to exercise their voting rights in the election to keep up the trend of development in the country.

“I urge the voters to go to polling centres as the national election will be held in a peaceful atmosphere,” he told a press conference at the media centre of the Awami League’s central office at Bangabandhu Avenue here.

Tomorrow’s parliamentary election is very crucial for the Bangali nation as the people will give their mandate in favour of pro-liberation forces, HT Imam said.

Turning down the comment of Secretary General of BNP Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir that a panicky situation has been created, he said adding the people of Dhaka city have gone to their village home to cast their votes in the parliamentary polls amid festive atmosphere.

HT Imam said the people should cast their votes for ‘boat’, AL’s electoral symbol, to enable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina get the opportunity once again to serve the people of the country.

Jatiya Oikyafront is plotting to destabilize peaceful and festive atmosphere of the general election, he said adding they (Jatiya Oikyafront) are spreading rumours using social media to misguide voters.

The Oikyafront leaders threatened to occupy polling centres in the name of guarding those, HT Imam warned the people of the country will resist their ill attempt for sake of democracy.

BNP-Jamaat launched massive violent and destructive activities in the country centering the national election, he said.

They(BNP-Jamaat) killed seven leaders and activists of Awami League, injured 461 leaders and activists of Awami League, vandalized AL 189 offices, HT Imam said adding they also launched arson attacks on AL offices and bomb attacks at 58 places.

BNP-Jamaat attacked police forces and minority community members at Thakurgaon, he added.

They (BNP-Jamaat) are conspiring to make the parliamentary election questionable through resorting to various malpractices and violent activities, he said urging all concerned to remain alert for thwarting their conspiracies.
