BB imposes ban on mobile banking from tomorrow for polls
DHAKA, Dec 27, 2018 (BSS) – The Bangladesh Bank (BB) today imposed restrictions on mobile banking services from 5pm tomorrow to 5pm Sunday, the voting day of 11th parliamentary election, to check the influence of money on voters.
As per the directives of the Election Commission, the central bank asked the mobile banking service providers to halt all sorts of transactions during the timeframe, the BB said in a notification.
So, apart from mobile banking, services like bKash, rocket, Ukash and Mkash will remain stopped from tomorrow.
However, personal account holders can make transaction up to Taka 5,000 in a day from 5pm on Saturday until the end of voting at 5pm on Sunday.
In another notice, the BB asked all banks to keep sufficient amount of money at ATM booths to provide the uninterrupted services during the periods as transaction in banks will remain stopped till Monday due to weekend holidays, national election and banking holiday.
