UK wants festive environment in polls: British HC

SYLHET, Dec 27, 2018 (BSS) – The British High Commissioner to Bangladesh Alison Blake today said the UK would like to witness a festive environment in the national election slated for Sunday.

“I have come to Sylhet to review the polls environment and overall situation of the election. The UK wants to see a festive environment in the election,” she told journalists after meeting Awami League and Jatiya Oikyafront candidates for Sylhet-1 constituency Dr AK Abdul Momen and Khandker Abdul Muktadir respectively.

About the meeting, Dr Momen said they discussed different issues about the election. “I informed the British High Commissioner that a festive mood is prevailing in the election. But opposition parties are creating obstructions in election campaign of Awami League in different ways,” he added.

He said: “I also informed the high commissioner about our electoral pledges.”

Earlier, Alison Blake met BNP and Oikyafront candidate Khandker Abdul Muktadi at Surma Valley rest house in the city this afternoon.

Muktadir’s spokesman Badruddoza Badar said the British high commissioner met the Oikyafront candidate to discuss overall situation of the election.
