Teachers of non-government institutions call off hunger strike

DHAKA, Jan 5, 2018 (BSS) – Teachers of non-government schools, colleges and madrasahs today called off their hunger strike following Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s assurance on meeting their demand for inclusion in the government’s Monthly Payment Order (MPO).

PM’s Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim told BSS that on behalf of the Prime Minister, her Private Secretary Sajjadul Hasan talked to the agitating teachers in front of the Jatiya Press Club this afternoon and conveyed the premier’s assurance to consider their demand.

Karim said Secretary of Secondary and Higher Education Division Md Sohrab Hossain was present on the occasion.

Md Waliullah, a teacher of Radhanagar Mujumder Academy School and College, said, “Teachers and employees of 5,242 non-government schools, colleges and madrasahs have withdrawn the ongoing hunger strike after the assurance of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.”

Several hundred teachers and employees of non-government educational institutions began their demonstration on December 26 and they started hunger strike on December 31 demanding inclusion in the government’s MPO facilities.
