AL urges EC to keep cautious eye against use of black money

DHAKA, Dec 26, 2018 (BSS)- Awami League Election Conducting Committee today urged the Election Commission (EC) to keep a cautious eye against the use of black money and muscle-power centering the 11th parliamentary election.

“We urge the commission to remain alert against use of black money and muscle power. The commission has already taken different steps in curbing muscle power in the polls,” AL election conducting committee co-chairman HT Imam told reporters after emerging from a meeting with the EC this evening at Nirbachan Bhaban in city’s Agargaon.

He brought allegations of the flow of huge black money centering the polls. “Police seized one of the black money holders recently. We urge the commission to take steps against black money holders,” he added.

“We also propose to consider stopping of online money transfer and mobile banking on the polls day,” Imam said.

About separate comments of an election commissioner regarding polls, Imam said, “The commission consisted of five members headed by the chief election commissioner. They will make comments in unison. But one of them should not make any comment separately. It creates confusion among the common people.”

He said, “We were surprised to hear a comment of an election commissioner which is really unacceptable. But the comment of the said election commissioner, if it is made individually, should not be acceptable. The chain of command of an organization is very important.”

Prime Minister’s Economic Advisor Dr Mashiur Rahman, Advocate Nazibullha Hiru, Advocate ABM Riazul Kawser and Dr Selim Mahmud, among others, were present at the meeting.
