Intellectuals seek vote in favour of pro-liberation forces

DHAKA, Dec 23, 2018 (BSS) – A number of intellectuals and professionals
today urged the country’s people to cast their vote in favour of the pro-
liberation forces.

At the rally, the speakers said they do not like to hear the slogan
“Zindabad” instead of Liberation War’s “Joy Bangla”.

Peshajibi Somannay Parishad (Professional Co-ordination Council) organised
the rally on the premises of Central Shaheed Minar here.

With the banners bearing slogans “Vote in favour of Liberation War”,
“Boycott anti-liberation forces and their allies”, a number of academics,
cultural personalities and writers participated in the rally.

Speakers at the rally urged people to vote for the boat, the electoral
symbol of Awami League, to uphold the spirit of Independence War.

Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor (VC) Prof. Md. Akhtaruzzaman, Journalist
Kamal Lohani, co-chairman of Professional Coordination Council Advocate Yusuf
Hossain Humayun, Sher-e-Bangla Agriculture University VC Prof Kamal Uddin
Ahmed, Dramatist Ramendra Majumdar, former FBCCI president Kazi Akram Uddin
Ahmed, journalist Manjurul Ahsan Bulbul and cultural personality Pijush
Bandyopadhyay, among others, spoke at the rally.

Golam Quddus, president of Sammilita Sangskritik Jote, said under the
leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, cultural-mined people have
gathered here and they want to continue the cultural activities across the
country.

“So, the forces of Independence War must win the upcoming election slated
for December 30…. If the country needs to overcome unemployment problems
and achieve targeted economic growth, Sheikh Hasina must come to power
again,” he added.

Professor Dr. M. Kamruzzaman conducted the programme while Former
Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University VC Dr. Kamrul Hassan Khan
presided over the programme.
