Sheikh Russel in final of Independence Cup Football
DHAKA, Dec 19, 2018 (BSS) – Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra stormed into the
final of Independence Cup Football when they blanked Brothers Union Club by
2-0 goals in the first semifinal match on Wednesday at Bangabandhu National
Stadium.
Sheikh Russel will now meet second semifinal winners either Abahani
Limited or new powerhouse Bashundhara Kings Limited in the battle of final
scheduled to be held on Monday (December 24) at the same venue.
The winners led the first half by 1-0 goal.
In the day’s match, Sheikh Russel’s foreign recruit Azizov put Sheikh
Russel ahead in the 45th minute and sealed the victory scoring his second
goal in the 51st minute of the match.
After the breather, Brothers Union Club however tried heart and soul to
come back in the match creating some scoring chances but failed to convert
any of those into goals.
On the other hand, Sheikh Russel played organized football all through the
proceeding and notched their deserving victory.
Abahani Limited will meet Bashundhara Kings in the second semifinal of the
competition scheduled to be held tomorrow (Thursday) at the same venue at
4.30 pm.
Earlier, Brothers Union Club reached semi-final beating Arambagh Krira
Sangha by 4-3 goals in penalty shoot out in the first quarterfinal while
Sheikh Russel booked their last four spot when they defeated Chattogram
Abahani Limited by 2-0 goals in the second quarterfinal.
