10th Mathematics Olympiad-2018 held at BUET

DHAKA, Dec 8, 2018 (BSS) – The opening ceremony of the final round of the
10th National Undergraduate Mathematics Olympiad 2018 (NUMO) was held today
(Saturday) at Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET).

BUET in co-operation with Bangladesh Mathematical Society (BMS) and A. F.
Mujibur Rahman Foundation organized the programme in front of BUET Central
auditorium premises, said a press release.

The Mathematics Olympiad provides a perfect platform to promote and
recognize excellence in the subject matter. Enthusiastic students pursuing an
undergraduate course in Mathematics or related subject in Science and
Engineering were eligible to participate in the NUMO18.

During November 26 to 30, in 8 regional centers, more than 100 students
sat in the regional Math Olympiads and top 10 from each center took part in
the final round of NUMO 2018 at BUET.

At the closing ceremony of NUMO 2018, A F Mujibur Rahman Gold Medal Award
was given to the awardees. BUET Engineering Faculty Dean Dr. Md. Rafique
Ullah handed over certificates, crests, and cash prizes among the top ten
winners as the chief guest.

Md. Anowar Hossain and Md. Sumon Hossain received A F Mujibur Rahman Gold
Medals, cash awards and certificates in recognition of the excellent
achievements based on the result in M.Sc and M. Phil degrees respectively
from BUET.

Mathematical Society, Prof. Dr. M. Anwar Hossain, Co-Convener, NUMOC, Prof.
Dr. Md. Abdul Hakim Khan, member of the EC of BMS, Prof. Dr. Md. Manirul Alam
Sarker, Member-Secretary-NUMOC; Prof. Dr. Mohammed Forhad Uddin, Secretary,
organizing committee of the final round of NUMO 2018 spoke on the occasion as
the special guests.

Renowned mathematicians from different universities were present.
