Govt to preserve 20000 graves of freedom fighters in first phase

DHAKA, March 22, 2017 (BSS) – The government will preserve graves of all martyred and general freedom fighters (FFs) in view of their great sacrifices during the War of Liberation in 1971.

“In the first phase, the government has taken a project involving Taka 348 crore to preserve 20,000 graves of the martyred and general freedom fighters to pay due respect to the worthy sons of the sacred soil,” Md. Mominur Rahman, assistant chief, Ministry of Liberation War Affairs, told BSS today.

He said the graves of all freedom fighters across the country will be preserved in phases.

After the first phase, the government will preserve 20,000 more graves of the martyred and general freedom fighters in the second phase, he added.

To implement the first phase of the programme, a Development Project Proforma (DPP) has already been sent to the Planning Commission for its approval, which is now under process, Mominur Rahman said.

The project is expected to be completed by June in 2019, he added.
