DHAKA, Dec 27, 2017 (BSS) – Health and Family Planning Service Week-2017 will begin across the country on December 30 with a call to provide health and family planning services to people, especially children and mothers.

The theme of the week is ‘Reduce maternal death forming planned family’.

“The week will be observed to improve reproductive health and family planning services aiming to check population growth, reduce maternal, neonatal and child deaths and ensure safe motherhood,” State Minister for Health and Family Affairs Zahid Maleque told a press briefing at the Secretariat here today.

He said the government is committed to reduce maternal mortality to 70 per 100,000 births by 2030 aiming to achieve the heath-related Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The State Minister said the government is working sincerely to create awareness in all spheres of society about maternal health, safe delivery and nutrition.

Stressing the need for reaching family planning programme at the doorstep of every couple to check population growth, he highlighted various aspects of family planning and its importance to bring more dynamism in family planning and reproductive health services.

Zahid Maleque urged all the authorities concerned to encourage able couples to adopt short- and long-terms or permanent methods of family planning, and popularise the message of ‘not more than two children, but one is better’ among people.

The Health and Family Planning Ministry has chalked out elaborate programmes to mark the week beginning from December 30, 2017 to January 4, 2018.

The pregnant mothers will be checked up at the family welfare centres and union health complexes across the country and their safe deliveries and post- natal care will be ensured there to reduce the maternal and child mortality rates.
