EC decides to run mobile courts in 300 constituencies

DHAKA, Nov 12, 2018 (BSS) – The Election Commission has decided to run mobile courts to check violation of the electoral code of conduct in all 300 parliamentary seats in the 11th national election to be held on December 30.

The commission today sent a letter signed by its Joint Secretary Farhad Ahmmed Khan to Public Administration Ministry asking to appoint executive magistrates for running mobile courts till the next day of voting.

To check the violation of electoral code of conduct under the Mobile Court Act, 2009, the EC asked the ministry to appoint one executive magistrate for every upazila, one for three-four wards of city corporations, one-two magistrates for each district sadar municipality and one magistrate for three-four upazilas of the Chattogram Hill Tracts, the letter said.

The letter said apart from assistant returning officers, assistant commissioners (land) could be appointed as executive magistrate. Administration cadre officers will have to appointed as executive magistrates in those upazilas where assistant commissioners are not in service.

Besides, the commission has issued a notification of the revised schedule of the national election fixing the last date of nomination paper submission on November 28 and the polls date on December 30.

As per the new schedule, the scrutiny of nomination papers will be held on December 2. The deadline for withdrawal of candidature is December 9.

Earlier on Thursday, the EC declared the polls schedule by announcing the last date of nomination paper submission on November 19, the date for nomination paper scrutiny on November 22, the deadline for nomination paper withdrawal on November 29 and polls date on December 23.
