Newborn baby rescued, abductor held in Rangpur

RANGPUR, Oct 14, 2018 (BSS) – Rangpur Metropolitan Police (RpMP)
rescued an abducted newborn baby and arrested a female abductor this
afternoon from Medical Mour area in the city after four days of abduction.

Rangpur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Abdul Alim Mahmud disclosed the
information while addressing a press briefing arranged at his office here.

Alim said one Shudha Rani, wife of Poresh Chandra of village Babrijhar
in Kishoreganj upazila of Nilphamari district gave birth to a son at the
Labour Ward of Rangpur Medical College Hospital (RMCH) on Tuesday last.

In the next morning, one Yasmin Sultana Munni, 32, wife of Faruk Mian of
Bhelaguri village in Aditmari upazila of Lalmonirhat district took the
newborn baby in her lap to show her warmth to him.

“At one stage, Munni escaped from the place with the baby beyond the
knowledge of his mother,” Alim said adding that Shudha Rani filed a general
diary with Metropolitan Kotwali Thana police on the same day.

Munni had been living with her relatives in an abandoned house near RMCH
for quite some time and she had free access to the hospital.

“Using video footage, a special team of RpMP led by its Deputy Police
Commissioner (Crime) Abu Mottakin Minan and Assistant Police Commissioner
Altaf Hossain conducted a raid at the abandoned house, rescued the baby and
arrested abductor Munni,” Alim said.

After the press briefing, Alim handed over the rescued newborn baby to
her mother in an emotion-choked environment when mother Shudha Rani expressed
her deep gratitude to the RpMP authorities.

Additional Police Commissioner (Crime) of RpMP Abu Sufian, its Deputy
Police Commissioner (Headquarter) Mohidul Islam, Deputy Police Commissioner
(Crime) Abu Mottakin Minan, Additional Deputy Police Commissioner (Crime)
Shahidullah Kawser and other police officers attended the press briefing
function.
