Veteran journo Yusuf passes away

CHATTOGRAM, Oct 14, 2018 (BSS)- Elderly journalist and former President of Chattogram Union of Journalists (CUJ) Mohammad Yusuf died of old age complications at his city’s Alkoron residence this afternoon.

He was 78, family sources said.

Yusuf left behind his wife, one son, two daughters, a large number of professional colleagues and a host of relatives and admirers to mourn his death.

Mohammad Yusuf, who had been suffering from old age complications, died at his city residence at 4.00 pm today.

The death of prominent journalist Yusuf cast a pall of gloom in journalism and cultural arena in Chattogram.

Late Yusuf stepped into journalism in 1960s. He had worked in first daily of the independent Bangladesh The Daily Azadi for long. Besides, he had also worked in the daily Sangbad, Azad, Insaf , Jamana , Banglar Bani and Bangladesh Betar.

He had been President of Chattogram chapter of Khelaghor, a juvenile organization of the leftist Communist Party of Bangladesh, for long.

The body of Yusuf will be brought to Chattogram Press Club premises at 10 am tomorrow to pay last respect to late journalist-cum-trade unionist and first namaz-e-janaza would be held there.

He would be buried at city’s Baish Moholla Chaitonyagail graveyard after second janaza on old railway station premises.

Meanwhile, president of Chattogram Union of Journalists (CUJ) Nazim Uddin Shyamol and General Secretary (GS) Hasan Ferdouse, Chattogram Press Club president Kalim Sarwar and GS Shuklal Das, Vice President of the Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) Reaz Haider Chowdhury and joint secretary general Mohsin Kazi expressed deep condolences at the death of journalist Mohammad Yusuf.

They conveyed sympathy to the members of the bereaved family and prayed for eternal peace of his departed soul.
