BPUPC demands 4-day govt. holidays on occasion of Durgapuja

CHATTOGRAM, Oct 12, 2018 (BSS)- Bangladesh Puja Udjapon Parisad Chattogram (BPUPC) here today demanded to implement its 12 points demands including four-day government holidays on the occasion of their largest religious festival Durgapuja.

They also put forward other demands including ensuring equal rights for the Hindu Community, inflicting punishment to the attackers on Hindus under special tribunals, giving full state status to Durgapuja, implementation of Enemy Property law and upgrading Bangladesh Hindu Welfare Trust into a foundation.

Bangladesh Puja Udjapon Parisad Chattogram (BPUPC) city came up with the demands at a press conference held at Chittagong Press Club.

General Secretary of Prokash Das read out the written statement in the press conference while its President Advocate Chandhon Dhor replied
questions.

The speakers in the press conference alleged that the people of the Hindu community in the country are deprived of celebrating the biggest religious festival with their near and dear ones because of only one-day vacation. “That’s why the members of the Hindu community demand a four-day Durgapuja vacation”, they said.

A total of 255 Puja Mondops have been set up in port city by the Hindhu Community city this year, they added.

They also demanded ensuring proper security for smooth holding of upcoming five day long Durga Puja.

The five-day long Sharadiya Durga Puga, the biggest religious festival of the Bangali Hindus, formally will begin from Oct 15 in the city and as elsewhere in the district with the Bodhan (the process of infusing life into idol ) amidst traditional enthusiasm and due solemnity.
