537 flood affected families get TK 21.48 lakh in Gaibandha

GAIBANDHA, Dec 15, 2017 (BSS) – A total of 537 flood affected families of
Kapasia union of Sundarganj upazila in the district got cash TK 21.48 lakh as
financial grant and 8 kinds of vegetables seed from The International
Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRRCS) on Thursday.

Besides, of them, 304 affected persons each also received two bundles of
corrugated iron (CI) sheet and a tool box containing spade, bill-hook, axe,
shovel, saw, hammer, nail, rope and tape from the organization to build their
houses.

IFRRCS distributed the cash, CI sheet, vegetable seed and tool box through
Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS), district unit.

A function was also held on the ground of Kuruar Badha Eidga under Sreepur
union of Sundarganj upazila in the afternoon with executive member of BRDCS,
district unit, Sultana Islam Doly in the chair.

Superintendent of police (SP) M. Mashrukur Rahman Khaled formally
distributed the cash, the seed, CI sheet and tool boxes to the beneficiaries
of the union as the inaugurator while chairman of BDRCS, district unit, and
also chairman of Gaibandha Zila Parishad Ataur Rahman Sarker was the chief
guest.

District relief and rehabilitation officer AKM Idris Ali and secretary of
BDRCS, district unit, Rezaul Karim Reza were present at the event as the
special guests.

Monitoring officer of IFRRCS Sharif Khan, officer in charge of Sundarganj
thana Atiar Rahman, Kapasia union parishad chairman Zalal Uddin Sarker, and
media personality Sarker M. Shahiduzzaman addressed the function, among
others.

Speaking on the occasion, SP Mashrukur in his speeches thanked the donor
organization and BDRCS, district unit, for standing beside the flood affected
people of Kapasia union of the upazila and distributing the cash money,
vegetable seed, CI sheet and tools to them.

The SP also urged the beneficiaries to use the money, the seed, and the CI
sheet properly to mitigate their sufferings caused by floods this year.

A large number of people including public representatives, social workers,
local elite and journalists were present on the occasion.
