Export sector gets additional Taka 1000 crore stimulus

DHAKA, Bangladesh, Nov 25 (BSS)- The export sector gets an additional Taka 1,000 crore stimulus package to face the tail effects of the global financial meltdown.

Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith announced the package at a press conference at his office here today.

The amount is an addition to the stimulus package, announced earlier for the export industries excluding garment sector.

Amidst growing concern about possible negative impact of global recession on the country's export, the government in April this year announced a stimulus package of Taka 3,424 crore for the exporters.

The stimulus support with the additional amount will be
provided over the next five years to help exports including
apparel sector increase their competitiveness, maintain strong
position at existing market and explore new avenues with product
diversification.

With the additional amount, the garment sector will get up
to 5 per cent cash incentive for entering into markets other than
USA, UK, European Union and Canada.
