DHAKA, Bangladesh, Nov 25 (BSS) - A total of 7000 members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) including 2000 in the capital have been
deployed across the country to ensure smooth and peaceful celebration of the holy Eid-ul-Azha on November 28.
"Along with the regular force the members of the intelligence wing of RAB will also be in the filed including cattle markets in civil dress to ensure security," director General of RAB Hasan Mahmud Khandakar told at a press briefing at the RAB headquarters here on Tuesday.
Besides, he said striking force would also remain alert. "Striking force will immediately rush to the spot, if any serious crime takes place," he said.
The members of the RAB will check all kind of hijacks and toll collections for ensuring safe journey of the homebound people as well as celebration of the holy EID.
"We will setup permanent camp at all cattle markets in the city and more than one team of RAB will be active at all the markets as people can buy sacrificial animals without hassle," he said.
He said the vigilance of RAB has been increased on animal carrying vehicles to check any kind toll collection.
Tight security measures have also been taken at the bus stands, railway stations, lunch terminals and highways to ensure security for the homebound people. "We have taken measures so that no one can charge more transport fare as well as carry over weight," he said.
He said they have also taken plan to ensure security to the closed banks, shopping malls and empty houses during the Eid holidays.
Hasan Mahmud also informed that they have taken especial steps to check smuggling of leathers of sacrificial animals. "We have also taken allout measures to check hijack, extortion or any kind of unexpected incident related to trading of lathers," he added.
He also informed the newsmen that the security measures will remain in force till further orders.
