Comilla Victorians finish with compressive victory in BPL

DHAKA, Dec 6, 2017 (BSS) - A blistering half century by Opener Liton Das enabled Comilla Victorians to register a 25-run victory over Sylhet Sixers in the 42nd match of AKS Bangladesh Premier League T20 held on Wednesday at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium at Mirpur.

With this victory in their last league match, table toppers Comilla Victorians stood top in the table with 18 points from 12 matches while Sylhet Sixers remained at their previous credit of nine points playing the same number of outings.

In reply, Sylhet lost their wickets in regular intervals in the face of tight bowling display by the Comilla Victorians bowlers in finally restricted at 145 for 7 in 20 overs.

Sabbir Rahman top scored with 20-ball off 31 runs laced with four boundaries and one over boundary but he hardly got support from other end to chase the target as Andre Fletcher (25), Babar Azam (20), Mohammad Sharif (14 n.o) and Nasir Hossain (12) got a good start but could not convert those in to big knocks.

Graeme Cremer was the most successful as he grabbed three Sylhet wicket conceding 15 runs from four overs. He was well supported by Mehedi Hasan who captured two wickets giving away 31 runs from four overs.

Liton Das of Comilla was named the player of the match for his impressive batting performance.

Earlier, opener Liton Das and Marlon Samuels scored a breezy half century saw Comilla Victorians piled up a competitive total of 170 for 4 from their allotted 20 overs, after they were forced to bat first by Sylhet Sixers.

The wicket keeper batsman Liton smacked 43-ball off 65 hitting six boundaries and three over boundaries and during the process he also shared 83-run third wicket stand with Samuels who blasted 43-ball off 55 laced with five boundaries ad two over boundaries.

Later, Shoaib Malik's hammered unbeaten 18-ball off 28-run helped Comilla to set a challenging target in front of Sylhet Sixers.

Nasir Hossain, Whiteley and Kamrul Islam Rabbi took one wicket conceding 20, 29 and 26 runs respectively.
