Olema-mashaikhs can help uprooting militancy, terrorism

RAJSHAHI, April 16, 2018 (BSS) - Speakers at a discussion urged the Olema- mashaikhs and Islamic scholars and leaders to play their due role to help the government towards wipe out militancy and terrorism from the society.

They said the Islamic scholars should engage themselves in anti-militancy and anti-terrorism campaign and should take the responsibility of preventing the people who are misleading the youths in the name of religion.

The religious leaders and Imams have their pivotal role in uprooting crime as it is defaming Islam alongside destroying the image of Muslim Ummah across the world.

The observation came at a view-sharing meeting with officials and employees of Islamic Foundation (IF) and discussion styled "Role of Alem- Olema in Uprooting Militancy" in Rajshahi city on Sunday afternoon.

IF divisional office organized the meeting at its conference hall with participation of large number of officials concerned and Alem-olema from eight districts under Rajshahi division.

Director General of IF Shamim Muhammad Afzal addressed the meeting as chief guest with Divisional Director Syed Aminuddin Mahmud in the chair.

Additional Commissioner of Rajshahi division Zakir Hossain, Additional Deputy Inspector General of Police Mashudur Rahman Bhuiyan and IF Directors Shafiqul Islam and Mohiuddin Mazumder also spoke.

Shamim Muhammad Afzal said those who are killing people and carrying out terrorist acts in the name of religion are not on the right path. In no way does Islam support murders.

He said the Alem-olemas have a vital role to play for forging social resistance against extremism.

They should come forward to protect the country's hard-earned democracy as a certain circle has been hatching deep-rooted conspiracy against democracy, Shamim Afzal added.
