Elected 33 general, 11 reserved councilors in RpCC polls

RANGPUR, Dec 22, 2017 (BSS) - Thirty-three councilors for 33 general wards and 11 reserved female councilors from 11 reserved ward have been elected in the December 21 second Rangpur City Corporation (RpCC) election- 2017, officials said here today.

Talking to BSS, Assistant Returning Officer for RpCC Election-2017 Kamrul Islam said the lists of mayor-elect and councilor-elect will be handed over by him to Bangladesh Election Commission at Dhaka.

Returning Officer for RpCC Election-2017 and Rangpur Regional Election Officer Subhash Chandra Sarkar said after gazette notification for the unofficially elected mayor and councilors, subsequently they would resume official charge after oath-taking.

"Jatiya Party-nominated candidate Mostafizur Rahman Mostafa has been elected as the second RpCC Mayor bagging 1,60,489 votes against 62,400 votes of his nearest rival Awami League-nominated candidate Sarfuddin Ahmed Jhantu," he said.

Officials at the Returning Officer office here said the 11 reserved female councilor-elect are: Nasima Amin (reserved ward-1), Bilkis Begum (reserved ward-2), Afroza Akhter Sweety (reserved ward-3), Zamila Begum (reserved ward- 4), Shaheda Begum Baby (reserved ward-5), Zaheda Anwari Lucky (reserved ward- 6), Ferdousi Begum (reserved ward-7), Monwara Sultana Moly (reserved ward-8), Hasna Banu (reserved ward-9), Farida Kalam (reserved ward-10) and Nazmun Nahar Nazma (reserved ward-11).

The 33 general councilors elected are: Rafikul Islam (ward-1), Abul Kalam Azad (ward-2), Mostafizur Rahman (ward-3), Haradhon Chandra Roy (ward-4), Mokhlesur Rahman Taru (ward-5), Monwarul Islam Lebu (ward-6), Mahfuzar Rahman Mafu (ward-7), Mamunur Rashid Manik (ward-8), Nazrul Islam Dewani (ward-9), Laikur Rahman Nazu (ward-10), Joynul Abedin (ward-11), Rabiul Islam Ratan (ward-12), Fazle Elahi Fulu (ward-13), Shafikul Islam Mithu (ward-14), Zakaria Alam Shiblu (ward-15), Aminur Rahman (ward-16) and Abdul Gaffar Ali (ward-17).

Muntaseer Shamim Laiko (ward-18), Mahmudur Rahman Titu (ward-19), Tauhidul Islam (ward-20), Mahbubur Rahman Majnu (ward-21), Mizanur Rahman Miju (ward- 22), Sekendar Ali (ward-23), Mir Jamal Uddin (ward-24), Nurunnabi Fulu (ward- 25), Saiful Islam Fulu (ward-26), Harunur Rashid (ward-27), Rahamat Ullah Babla (ward-28), Muktar Hossain (ward-29), Malek Niaz Arzoo (ward-30), Shamsul Alam (ward-31), Abul Kashem (ward-32) and Sirajul Islam Siraj (ward- 33).

Election officials told BSS that 283 candidates including seven for the Mayor post, 211 for 33 general councilor posts and 65 for 11 reserved female councilor posts were in the fray in the second RpCC elections held peacefully on Thursday.
