Meeting to raise awareness about formalin held

GAIBANDHA, March 5, 2013 (BSS) - Speakers in a function here on Monday underscored the need for raising mass awareness about the harmful effects of poisonous chemical formalin at the greater in the common people.

"Dishonest traders are randomly using carbide chemicals on
different fruits like banana, mango, jackfruit, papaya, tomato
and pineapple including fishes which are much detrimental to the
health of common people", they said.

They made the comments while addressing a planning meeting
to make the kitchen markets free from formalin at the conference
room of deputy commissioner (DC) here at noon.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Dr Quazi Anwarul Haque presided
over the meeting. Additional district magistrate M Hamidul Haque,
civil surgeon Dr Ahad Ali, district fisheries officer SM Rashedul
Haque, Gaibandha poura mayor M Shamsul Alam and nezarat deputy
collector Jahid Newaz addressed the meeting, among others.

After elaborate discussion, many pragmatic decisions were
also taken in the meeting to check the sale of formalin mixed
food items by the dishonest traders to the customers in the days
