Bijoy Sarker's 32th death anniversary observed in Narail

NARAIL, Dec 4, 2017 (BSS) - The 32th death anniversary of renowned folk singer 'Bijoy Sarker' was observed today at the district Shilpakala Academy premises.

Deputy Commissioner M Emdadul Haque Chaudhury was present at the occasion as the chief guest.

Zila Parishad chairman Advocate Shorab Hossain Biswas, additional district magistrate M Yarul Islam, educationist Dr Gazi Rahman, Principal Rowshan Ali and SM Akram Shahid Chunnu were present, among others.

Bard poet Bijoy Sarker was born at Dumdi village under Narail sadar upazila on 20 February, 1903. He wrote 1,800 songs especially Jari, Sari, Kirton, Vhajan and Vatiali. He died at Keutia in West Bengal of Kolkata on December 4, 1985. He won Ekushey Padak in 2013.
