Netherlands government provides Euro 339,506,00 assistance
 
DHAKA,Bangladesh, Nov 11 (BSS)- The government of the Netherlands
provides emergency assistance worth Euro 339,506,00 for a period of 6 months to 3500 extremely poor households in Ukiah and Teknaf upazilas of Cox's Bazar district hosting a large number of Rohingya refugees.

Ten wards have been selected to implement activities in these two upazilas with extremely high levels of poverty and malnutrition following a needs assessment in May 2009,a Dutch embassy release said here today.

The programme consists of 4- component food and cash for work, food for training and kitchen gardening.

These programmes will improve the nutrition and livelihood situation of 3,500 very poor families. Men and women of 2,500 families will perform manual labour in public works activities such as road maintenance, water body excavation, cleaning and drainage system development, waste management and the building of latrines, food for training programme in exchange for food or cash.

The food for training and kitchen gardening activities are targeting 100 very vulnerable female headed households. The women
will participate in training session on risk management of natural disasters, personal hygiene and cleanliness, mother and child health, food and nutrition, women empowerment and vegetable gardening and are receiving garden kits in exchange for food.

The agreement to implement these activities was recently signed between the government of the Netherlands and Action Contre La Faim (ACF), a Paris-based non governmental
organisation.

ACF Bangladesh will closely collaborate with different national authorities, MSF-Holland, the Spanish International Development Organisation Agency (AECI), and the UN- agencies UNHCR, UNICEF and WFP to implement the activities, the release added.
