27.76 lakh students get 3.10cr books in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, Jan 01, 2018 (BSS) - Over 27.76 lakh students of 18,322 primary and secondary level educational institutions got 3.10 crore pieces of new textbooks free of costs during celebration of the National Textbook Distribution Festival 2018 on the New Year's Day in Rangpur division today.

Officials said the students received new textbooks at colourful ceremonies held in the primary and secondary level educational institutions this morning in all eight districts under the division amid huge enthusiasm and festivity,

In Rangpur city, Divisional Commissioner Kazi Hasan Ahmed, Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Wahiduzzaman, Divisional Deputy Director for Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Mostaq Habib, Divisional Deputy Director for Primary Education Mahbub Elahi, District Education Officer Roksana Begum and District Primary Education Officer Shahidul Islam launched the festival at separate ceremonies held in different educational institutions.

Besides, the Deputy Commissioners, District and Upazila Secondary Education and Primary Education Officers, Upazila Nirbahi Officers, public representatives and elite inaugurated the festival in other seven district and 58 upazila headquarters of the division.

Talking to BSS, Divisional Deputy Director for Primary Education Mahbub Elahi said a total of over 1.31 crore new textbooks were distributed among 6.43 lakh students of 13,451 primary level schools and madrashas in all eight districts under the division.

Divisional Deputy Director for Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Mostaq Habib said over 21.33 lakh students of 4,871 secondary level schools, madrashas and vocational institutions of all eight districts under the division got over 2.78 crore new textbooks today.

Talking to BSS after getting new textbooks, class eight student Maruf and class seven student Munna of Rangpur Zila School and class five student Luna of Rangpur Government Girls' High School expressed their happiness.

"I am extremely happy after getting new textbooks on first day of the New Year 2018," said class five student of Munshipara Government Girls' Primary School in the city.

Similarly, students of class nine Nasrine, Abdus Salam of class five, Sushma Barman of class three and Lovely of class two of different schools in the city expressed their happiness after getting new textbooks.

Guardian Kakoli Begum of Keranipara area in the city said she was also very happy as her daughter Noor Jahan got new textbooks of class five and expressed deep gratitude to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
