DU holds victory procession

DHAKA, Dec 3, 2017 (BSS) - The authorities of Dhaka University (DU) today brought out a victory procession on the campus as part of the Victory Day celebration programme.

DU Vice-Chancellor Professor Md Akhtaruzzaman inaugurated the procession releasing balloons and pigeons at the foot of Aparajeyo Bangla on the campus, said a DU press release.

Parading main streets of the campus, the procession ended coming at the Swadhinata Chattar in the historic Suhrawardy Udyan. It was followed by a musical function where the DU Music Department students performed the national anthem and other patriotic songs, the release added.

Students, teachers and employees of the university took part in the programme.

In his speech during the inauguration of the procession, Professor Akhtaruzzaman paid glowing respect to the memories of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the martyrs in different democratic movements and the Liberation War.

DU organizes the victory rally with an aim of instilling the spirit of non-communal, liberal and moral-humanitarian values of the Liberation War in the students of the university, Akhtaruzzaman said.

He said the recognition of Bangabandhu's 7 March speech as a world documentary heritage is a matter of pride for the nation.
