DHAKA, Mar 8, 2018 (BSS) - The government is planning to increase the use of foreign aid from the next fiscal (FY19), said finance minister AMA Muhith.
Taking to journalists after a meeting with economists here today, he said steps would be taken to increase the use of foreign aid in the next fiscal year.
The economists suggested it during the meeting, he added.
Responding to a question, he said the government would not allow any commercial banks to collapse as there is public money.
During the meeting, the economists suggested the government to allow some banks that are facing sever crisis to die naturally.
Opposing such comments, Muhith said, 'No, we cannot allow any bank to face such situation because there is public money".
The government, he said, is planning to save Farmers Bank. Around 40 percent share of this crisis-prone bank will be offloaded and government and other financial institutions will hold the shares, he added.
Bangladesh Economic Association president Abul Barakat, Ahsan H Munsur of PRI, among others, attended the meeting.
