DHAKA, Jan 20, 2018 (BSS)-The government has planned to build 'Relief Godown-cum-Disaster Information Centre' at the district level to ensure quick supply of relief goods and humanitarian assistance to disaster victims.
The Disaster Management Coordination Cell will look after the disaster management activities in the districts.
The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) recently cleared a project in this regard with an estimated cost of Tk 127.41 crore.
"We've taken this project to build necessary infrastructures for ensuring quick supply of relief goods and humanitarian assistance to disaster victims," said Planning Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal.
Talking to BSS, Kamal said under the project, a total of 66 godowns will be built at district level. Dhaka and Patuakhali districts will have two godowns each and the remaining 62 districts will have one godown each, he added.
"It will boost the government's disaster management capacity," he added.
The government will bear the entire cost of the project from its own fund. The project is expected to be completed by December, 2019. Each godown will have a space of 5,426 square feet having 1500watt solar system. Each godown will have two vehicles-a jeep and a double cabin pickup.
