Inu seeks China's support to resolve Rohingya crisis

DHAKA, Dec 7, 2017 (BSS) - Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) President and Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu today sought China's support for peaceful resolution of the Rohingya crisis.

"We have told the Chinese delegation that Bangladesh hopes China would extend active support to resolve the Rohingya crisis in a peaceful way," the minister told journalists after a meeting with leaders of visiting Communist Party of China (CPC) in the city's Sonargaon Hotel.

The meeting that lasted for an hour was also attended by Communist Party of Bangladesh President Mujahidul Islam Selim, Bangladesh Samyabadi Dal General Secretary Dilip Barua, JSD General Secretary Shirin Akhter and JSD Presidium Member Professor Dr Anwar Hossain.

The information minister led the Bangladesh side while Assistant Minister of International Department of CPC Wang Yajun led the six-member Chinese delegation at the meeting.

The minister said, "The congress of the CPC has been held recently where Xi Jinping was made general secretary of the party and president of China. They (the delegation) have come here to inform the people of Bangladesh of their recently taken policies."

The Chinese delegation leader greeted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on behalf of their party general secretary and Chinese president and said China would release its fund soon for the China-Bangladesh joint ventures.

The information minister congratulated Xi Jinping on his being re-elected as the CPC secretary general and thanked him for continued financial assistance to Bangladesh.
