Dhaka for hosting 63rd CPC next year: Speaker

DHAKA, Aug 23, 2016 (BSS) - Bangladesh has proposed that Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) hold the 63rd Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference (CPC) in Dhaka next year.

Speaker of Jatiya Sangsad and Chairperson of CPA Executive Committee Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury said this when Canadian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Beneoit Pierre Laramee called on her at the latter's office yesterday, a parliament secretariat press release said.

She said, "The 62nd Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference-2016 scheduled to be held in Dhaka in September would not be held in time."

During the meeting, they discussed various bilateral issues and matters relating to parliamentary affairs between the two countries.

Referring to friendly bilateral relations existing between the two countries, the Speaker stressed the importance of exchange of experience among the parliamentarians between Bangladesh and Canada.

The Canadian envoy appreciated the government for achieving overall development including in women empowerment and gender equality in Bangladesh during the last couple of years.
