DHAKA, Dec 9, 2015 (BSS) - The 44th anniversary of eminent martyred journalist Serajuddin Hossain will be observed tomorrow at his Mohammadpur residence, in the city.
During the War of Liberation in 1971, between 10 and 14 December, the Pakistan army captured and killed the intellectuals. Serajuddin Hossain was the first victim of this killing, a press release said.
On the night of 10 December, a number of Pakistani soldiers, along with Al-Badr and Razakar members, captured him at his residence in Chamelibag, Shantinagar. He never returned nor was his body ever found.
To mark the day, a milad mahfil and memorial discussion will be held at the Mohammadpur residence after Maghrib prayers.
Serajuddin Hossain was the former news and executive editor of the Daily Ittefaq who highlighted the demand of deprived people during the War of Liberation through his writings.
He was not only a prominent journalist, but was also considered to be a good writer and translator. He was very close to Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
He was the first to introduce investigative reporting into Bangla newspaper.
Qurankhawni and milad mahfil will also be held at his Sharshuna village home under Shalikha thana in Magura district, the release added.
