Life imprisonment for illicit firearms

RAJSHAHI, Dec 9, 2015 (BSS)- A man was sentenced to life imprisonment by a trial tribunal here yesterday for possessing firearm illegally around two years back.

Judge of the Rajshahi Divisional Speedy Trial Tribunal Golam Ahmed Khalilur Rahman found the convict guilty of the charges and pronounced the verdict in his absence.

The convict was identified as Alauddin alias Farhad, 35, son of late Shahjahan Ali of Raipara area under Rajpara Police Station in the city.

According to the prosecution story, in brief, is that a police team arrested Farhad along with an American automatic pistol form near his resident on September 30, 2013.

Subsequently, a case was lodged with the concerned police station and on completion of investigation police pressed charges accusing Alauddin.

The tribunal examined recorded depositions of 11 prosecution witnesses and other relevant evidences and handed down the aforesaid verdict.

Special Public Prosecutor Entajul Haque Babu appeared in the case on behalf of the state while Advocate Mahmudur Rahman defended the accused.
