Anti-liberation forces attacked CPC to thwart mass uprising: journalist leaders

CHITTAGONG, Feb 23,2013 (BSS)- Journalists here on Saturday said the anti- liberation forces attacked Chittagong Press Club (CPC) for resisting current mass uprising demanding trial of the war criminals.

"The people of Chittagong will resist this vested quarter and we all are united for doing this job," Journalist leaders said while speaking at a protest meeting here today.

Chittagong Journalists' Union (CUJ) and CPC jointly organized the protest meeting in front of CPC for attacking Journalists and Chittagong Press Club on Friday noon.

The journalist leaders strongly deplored the attack on seven journalists, press club and demanded immediate punishment to the persons responsible for the attack.

They protested the incident and said such attack on journalists on duty is very shameful and this kind of practice will impede free and fair journalism.

The journalist leaders also warned if such incidents happen in future they would declare strong agitation programme.

Seven journalists were injured, two of them critically when they were on duty at city's Andarkillah on Friday afternoon to cover the incident.

Chittagong Press Club President Ali Abbas presided over the protest meeting while ex- CPC president Abu Sufian, CUJ President Shahidul Alam, Chittagong Metropolitan Union Of Journalist President Shamsul Haq Haidory, BFUJ vice President Mostaq Ahmed, BFUJ joint secretary general Ashif Seraj, Chittagong press club general secretary Mohosin Chowdhury, CUJ general secretary Reaj Haider, Chittagong T V Journalists Association Secretary, Chowdhury Farid and others addressed the rally.

Earlier, on Friday noon the activists of Jamaat-Shibir and a few Islamic parties in a huge procession attacked the law enforcers, seven Journalists and Chittagong Press Club demanding punishment to Shahbagh bloggers for their anti-islamic' campaign.
