Mr. Khaja Miah

Secretary, Ministry of Information

Mr. Khaja Miah, Secretary to the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh took over as Secretary of the Ministry of Information on 30 November 2020.

Mr. Khaja Miah joined in the Administration Cadre through the 10th BCS in 1991. He served as Magistrate at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office in Sylhet and as  Assistant Commissioner (Land) at Balaganj and Bishwanath Police Stations. He worked as NDC in Narsingdi district from 1999 to 2001. After serving as a first class magistrate in Rajbari, Netrokona and Mymensingh districts, he joined Matlab Upazila in Chandpur district as  Upazila Nirbhahi Officer in 2003 and served there for three years. He joined in the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications in April 2006 as a Senior Assistant Secretary.

Mr. Khwaja Mia served as Deputy Secretary at the Local Government Division and the Ministry of Home Affairs. After serving as a Commercial Counsellor of the Bangladesh High Commission in Singapore for more than four years since 2015, he joined in the Ministry of Public Administration on 28 November as an Additional Secretary. During his tenure in the Local Government Division, he served for more than two years as the Bangladesh Representative of the Inter Country Working Group-ICWG comprising SAARC countries on Water Supply and Sanitation. He completed a course in Telecommunication and Networking Management at the University of Information and Communication–ICU in Seoul, South Korea and received specialized training in Local Government Management and Water Supply organized by KOICA and JICA, respectively. He completed a course on ‘Strengthening of BCS Admin Cadre Officers’ from Duke University in the United States.

Most recently, he took over as the Chairman of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation–BIWTC on 23 December 2019 and served there till 29 November 2020.

Mr. Khaja Miah was born on 5 July 1965 in an aristocratic Muslim family in Fuldaha village under Kalia upazila of Narail district. He passed SSC from Chachuri Purulia High School in 1980 and HSC from Government B L College Khulna in 1982. As a regular student of 1986 batch, he obtained Masters Degree with Honors from Sociology Department from the University of Dhaka.

As part of his official duties, he visited about 30 countries in the Middle East, Europe and Asia including the United States, England, Australia, China and Japan. He performed the Holy Hajj in 2016 in his own arrangement.

He has been serving as Joint Secretary General of the Executive Committee of Bangladesh Administrative Service Association (BASA) for a long time.

He is blessed with two sons. His spouse Mrs. Khaleda Akter is Additional Secretary of Secondary and Higher Education Division of the Ministry of Education, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh.
