DMP chief for concerted efforts to ensure safe road

DHAKA, Oct 6, 2018 (BSS) – Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Md
Asaduzzaman Mia today said collective effort of all as well as changed
mindset are must to ensure safe road.

“There are no alternatives to concerted efforts of all and changed mindset
to ensure safe road,” he said while speaking at a debate programme here.

Debate for Democracy organised the shadow parliamentary debate at
Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC) here with its chairman Hasan
Ahmed Chowdhury Kiron.

Bangladesh University of Business and Technology has won the debate
defeating Stamford University Bangladesh.

The DMP chief put forward a number of reasons for road accidents which
included reckless driving, carelessness of drivers, inefficiency and lack of
professionalism of drivers, lack of interest in using zebra-crossings and
foot-over bridges while crossing road, and insufficient infrastructures.

He said the road accidents did not reduce at an expected level as there is
a tendency of disobeying traffic rules and regulations among citizens.

“Police have enough sincerity to bring discipline in traffic system and we
have been successful to ensure discipline on roads. But success in preventing
road accidents is yet to be achieved,” he added.
