DHAKA, Oct 04, 2018 (BSS) – Accelerance, a US based global software
outsourcing authority, will provide support to Bangladesh’s software
development companies to sell their software services in the global markets.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed in this regard between
Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC) and Accelerance Inc. today at the office of
Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Minister at ICT Tower in
capital’s Agargaon, said a press release.

Deputy Project Director of Leveraging ICT for Growth, Employment and
Governance (LICT) Project of BCC Tarique M Barkatullah and President of
Accelerance Inc. Andy Hilliard signed the MoU on behalf of their respective
organisations.

Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Minister Mustafa
Jabbar, BCC Executive Director Parthapratim Deb, LICT Component Team Leader
Sami Ahmed, Accelerance Vice President Hugh Morgan and Chief Delivery Officer
Jim Marascio were present at the ceremony.

While addressing the programme, Mustafa Jabbar said, “In line with its
Digital Bangladesh vision, the government has created an IT ecosystem to
flourish the country’s ICT sector.”

The entire country even the remote areas is being brought under internet
connectivity through establishing optical fiber connectivity, he said, adding
currently over 140 million people are using mobile phones.

“Mobile banking is increasingly getting popular in Bangladesh and on an
average Taka 1,000 crore is being transacted daily. Most rural people have
been brought under banking services through the mobile banking”, he said.

Jabbar said the technology is changing every day and Bangladesh has
taken a number of initiatives to cope up with this fast-changing technology.
Both hardware and software sectors saw a positive growth in the last few
years due to government’s various initiatives including policy support, he
added.

The minister said one of the major challenges here is the lack of ICT
education, but the government is aware about it. The government has already
introduced ICT in the secondary education and planned to introduce ICT
education in the primary level, the minister told the visiting delegation of
Accelerance, he added.

As per the MoU, Accelerance will provide support to Bangladeshi software
companies in their sale and marketing efforts into the targeted markets
including American, European, Australian and other English speaking markets.

Based on the technical and readiness assessments of software companies,
Accelerance will give direction and assistance in developing and implementing
plans to remediate gaps.
