Female students’ exceptional bicycle procession in Atwari

RANGPUR, Oct 3, 2018 (BSS) – Female students launched exceptional bicycle
procession at Atwari upazila in Panchagarh on Tuesday expressing gratitude to
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for her outstanding contribution to women
empowerment.

Around 1,000 female students of Balorampur Model College, Atwari Women
College and Balorampur High School in Atwari upazila of the sub-Himalayan
district brought out two separate bicycle processions on inaugural day of a
month-long campaign.

Awami League (AL) leader and Peoples’ Perspective Specialist of the A2i
Programme at Prime Minister’s Office Naimuzzaman Mukta has initiated the
campaign that will continue till end of October in Sadar, Tetulia and Atwari
upazilas of Panchagarh.

Female students of different educational institutions of these upazilas
will implement the bicycle procession campaign to focus Sheikh Hasina’s
tremendous contribution to development and empowerment of women.

Accordingly, female students of Balorampur Model College, Atwari Women
College and Mirja Golam Hafiz Girls’ High School spontaneously launched the
bicycle procession and circled 12 kilometres of road with small banners.

Mukta addressed a brief discussion narrating goals of the month-long
campaign on Balorampur Model College premises before launching the
procession. He also participated in the campaign along with female students.

Principal of Balorampur Model College Golam Mustafa, Principal of Atwari
Women’s College Abdul Mannan, Headmaster of Balorampur High School Keshob
Chandra Roy, local AL leaders Mokhlesur Rahman, Kamruzzaman Sheikh Milon and
Saiful Alam Babu were present.

Later, over 200 female students of Atwari Women’s College brought out
another bicycle procession that paraded various roads in the area.

Participating in the bicycle procession, Sadiya Afrin, an intermediate
student of Balorampur Model College, told BSS that she was taking part in the
campaign to show deep respect and gratitude to Sheikh Hasina for empowering
women.

“We are celebrating this procession as a reward to Sheikh Hasina as she has
done extensive works in women empowerment, including compulsory use of names
of father as well as mother in all certificates and identities of their
children,” she said.

Intermediate student of the college Afrin Akhter said, “Contribution of
Sheikh Hasina is undeniable to empowerment of women in education, health,
administration, army, navy and air force, police, BGB, Ansar, diplomacy,
judiciary and all other fields.”

“Because of Sheikh Hasina, students are getting new books at the beginning
of the year and sub-stipend programme has brought a revolution in promoting
female education. We are happy to participate in this bicycle procession
spontaneously,” she added.

Talking to BSS, Golam Mostafa, Principal of Balorampur Model College, said
that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has taken massive programmes for education,
skill-building, employments, welfare and empowerment of women at all levels.

“Considering enormous contribution of Sheikh Hasina to women empowerment,
female students are participating in the bicycle procession as a sign of
respect,” he said adding that teachers were excited to witness such a unique
programme.

Mukta told BSS that he took the initiative to highlight massive programmes
taken by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to develop and empower women for
accelerating their advancement in the social, political and economic fields.

“Sheikh Hasina has set up a unique example in empowering women on her way
to transform Bangladesh into a happy and prosperous ‘Sonar Bangla’ for
realising the dream of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur
Rahman,” he said.
