President condoles loss of lives in Indonesian tsunami

DHAKA, Sept 30, 2018 (BSS) – President M Abdul Hamid has expressed deep
shock and condolence on the loss of lives in earthquake and subsequent
tsunami in the Indonesian island of Sulawesi.

In a condolence message to Indonesian President Joko Widodo, President
Hamid today said, “I’m deeply saddened to learn about the tragic loss of
hundreds of lives and large-scale destruction of properties in the recent
earthquake and consequent tsunami in Indonesia.”

He said, “The people and the government of Bangladesh join me to share
the grief of the friendly people and the government of the Republic of
Indonesia and express deepest condolence and sympathy to the people who lost
their near and dear ones and suffered loss of properties in the devastating
natural calamity.”

“We pray to the Almighty for bestowing courage and fortitude on the
bereaved families to overcome the irreparable loss,” the message read.

The president hoped that the resilient people of Indonesia would
overcome this testing moment soon under his able stewardship.

A 7.4 magnitude earthquake hit the island of Sulawesi on Friday morning,
causing a tsunami and around 170 aftershocks. It was the most devastating
earthquake to hit Indonesia since 2004.
