DHAKA, Sep 30, 2018 (BSS) – State Minister for Textiles and Jute Mirza Azam today said that the present Awami League government has taken diversified steps to highlight the history and tradition of the ‘golden fiber’ across the world.
“The present government has been working to regain the lost glory of jute through transforming Bangladesh as a country of ‘golden fiber’,” said the State Minister while addressing a function marking the distribution of 70 jute-made briefcases to the Cabinet Division, said a Ministry press release.
Mirza Azam handed over these briefcases to Cabinet Secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam at the Cabinet Division today. Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Textiles and Jute M Foyjur Rahman Chowdhury, Additional Secretary Rina Parvin were present, among others, on the occasion.
Azam said following directives from Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, a permanent exhibition and sales center featuring some 235 jute products has been set up at the Jute Diversification Promotion Center (JDPC) to highlight jute in the global market.
Besides, a project has already been undertaken to produce ‘golden bag’ from jute as a substitute to polythene. Apart from this, work has begun to produce drinks from tea leaves, set up jute-based composite textiles and jute garments industry.
Bangladesh Jute Mills Corporation (BJMC) has also taken a project to set up a plant for producing valuable viscose from jute which is an essential element for the textiles industry.
These golden colour jute-made briefcases will replace the leather-made black colour briefcases for sending necessary documents including agenda of the Cabinet meeting to the Ministers and State Ministers.
