Tofail for strengthening WTO’s initiatives for multidimensional trade

DHAKA, Dec 12, 2017 (BSS) – Commerce minister Tofail Ahmed has said WTO’s initiative for expanding multidimensional trade system needs to be strengthened for the betterment of least developed countries (LDCs).

The minister passed the remark at the plenary session of the 11th ministerial conference (MC) of WTO in Argentine’s capital Buenos Aires, said a commerce ministry press release today.

He also urged WTO to move forward for implementing the decision regarding relaxing trade policies which include rules of origin and product service sector.

Besides, the conference has to take decision on storage of food in godown and food safety.

Earlier, the commerce minister met UNCTAD Secretary General Mukhisa Kituya on the sideline of the conference.

Commerce secretary Shubhashish Bosu, Bangladesh’s permanent representative to UN offices in Geneva M Shamim Ahsan, EPB vice chairman Bijoy Bhattachariya and WTO Cell director general M Munir Chowdhury, among others, were present.
