Bangladesh role model in women empowerment: Dr Shirin

DHAKA, Sept 29, 2018 (BSS) – Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin
Chaudhury said Bangladesh has become a role model in empowering women in the
field of politics and economy.

“Because of the sincere efforts of the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the
advancement of women will remain as a milestone,” she said as she paid a
courtesy call on President of the House of Representatives, Belgium Siegfried
Bracke at the Belgium parliament on Friday.

Chaudhury said Bangladesh parliament speaker, parliament leader and prime
minister, deputy leader of the parliament and opposition leader all are
women.

In the Jatiya Sangsad, there are 73 women parliament members, she added.

Chaudhury said women are playing important role in different sectors of
the country including administration, judiciary and army. Besides, they are
contributing in business and commerce as entrepreneurs, she added.

The JS speaker said gender equity has been ensured at primary and
secondary level of education.

Belgian House of Representatives President Siegfried Bracke said
Bangladesh has made a commendable progress in economy and infrastructural
development.

He said Belgium will continue its effective efforts to resolve Rohingya
crisis through European Union.

Bracke assured that Belgium will stay beside Bangladesh in the Rohingya
issue.

During the meeting, Bangladesh delegation members Fazilatunnesa Bappy, MP,
and Bangladesh Ambassador to Belgium Mohammed Shahadat Hossain were present
on the occasion.

Earlier, the JS Speaker paid courtesy call on Chair of European
Parliamentary Delegation for Relations with Countries of South Asia, Jean
Lambert.

During the meeting, she called for strengthening Asia-Europe Parliamentary
Partnership (ASEP) for extending mutual cooperation in climate issue.
