Experts stress mass-awareness to prevent hydrophobia

RAJSHAHI, Sept 28, 2018 (BSS) – Experts at a post-rally discussion here today emphasised the need for creating mass awareness to prevent hydrophobia in the society.

They also put stress on conducting massive dog vaccination campaign to control rabies virus.

They came up with the call at the discussion, organised by Department of Livestock Services, styled “Means to Prevent Hydrophobia” held at its conference hall on the World Rabies Day- 2018.

The day was observed in the city as elsewhere in the country with the theme of “Rabies: Share the message: Save a Life”.

Divisional Deputy Director of DLS Fazlul Kader Mallik and its District Livestock Officer Dr Zulfikar Muhammad Akhter Hossain addressed the meeting as chief and special guests respectively with Assistant Director of DLS Humayun Kabir in the chair.

Chief Health Officer of Rajshahi City Corporation Dr AFM Anzuman Ara Begum and Assistant Director of Artificial Insemination Centre Dr Ismail Haque, among others, spoke on the occasion.

Mallik said massive vaccination programme can reduce reproduction of dogs to a greater extent and break the cycle of rabies transmission to human bodies.

He added that the government has a massive intervention to eliminate the rabies.

Dog bite management centres are functioning throughout the country while distribution of vaccines, training of physicians and nurses has been accelerated, he continued.

Earlier, the livestock officials and staff brought out a colourful procession from its office premises and paraded some city streets.

A number of representatives from different government and non-government organisations joined the rally.
