DHAKA, Dec 11, 2017 (BSS) – President M Abdul Hamid today asked the University Grants Commission (UGC) to play its due role to ensure quality education in the universities of the country.

“Take stern measures so that all public and private universities ensure quality education,” the President said when a delegation of the UGC led by its Chairman Prof Abdul Mannan submitted its Annual Report-2016 to him at Bangabhaban here this afternoon.

President Hamid also stressed the need for research activities on national and international issues at stake to keep pace with the international competition, President’s Press Secretary M Joynal Abedin told newsmen.

Noting that the world is now very competitive, Abdul Hamid said, “There is no alternative to quality education to compete with any world-standard competition.”

The President urged the UGC authority to take pragmatic steps so that all private universities abide by the Private University Act-2010 for functioning of the universities.

President Hamid was apprised by the UGC chairman of the university’s activities including infrastructural development, curriculums and various aspects of the report.

Abdul Hamid gave a patient hearing to the delegation and assured them of his overall cooperation.
