Govt to bring 460 upazilas under 100pc electrification by 2018

DHAKA, Dec 11, 2017 (BSS) – With a view to reaching electricity supply to every house of the country, the government is working relentlessly to bring 460 upazilas under 100 percent electrification by December 2018.

Some 36 upazilas have already been brought under 100 percent electricity coverage, said a press release of BREB (Bangladesh Rural Electricity Board).

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the 100 percent electrification in 10 upazilas through a videoconferencing from her official Ganabhaban residence here yesterday.

The upazilas are Faridpur Sadar, Rajoir in Madaripur, Kamarkhand in Sirajganj, Akhaura and Brahmmanbaria Sadar in Brahmmanbaria, Shalikha in Magura, Meherpur Sadar, Madan in Netrakona and Belabo in Narsingdi.

Earlier, six upazilas were brought under 100 percent electrification on August 13, 2016, 10 upazilas on March 1, 2017 and 10 others in September this year.

With the slogan “Sheikh Hasina’s initiative, electricity in every house”, BREB is working under upazila basis to provide electricity to every house.
