DHAKA, Sept 25, 2018 (BSS) – US Ambassador Marcia Bernicat today said the USA celebrated Bangladesh’s recent achievement of lower middle income status and congratulated Dhaka for already meeting all three UN criteria necessary for graduating from LDC status in 2024.

“As one of Bangladesh’s main development partners, we celebrated Bangladesh’s recent achievement of lower middle income status,” she said.

The US envoy said Bangladesh has come so far in the 47 years since liberation and has so much potential to achieve even more.

The US Ambassador was addressing a farewell reception hosted by Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) at its office in the capital.

“I look forward to many more years of close partnership between Bangladesh and the United States, to the mutual benefit of both countries,” the outgoing ambassador said.

Since 2013, she said with the help of Accord and Alliance, BGMEA has dramatically transformed the garment and apparel factories, making them among the safest in world.

She said the continued economic development and growth depended on Bangladesh remaining vigilant and continuing to address issues like factory safety and labor rights.

BGMEA President M Siddiqur Rahman and Vice President Mohammed Nasir, among others, were present.
