Public awareness for preventing road accidents stressed

RANGPUR, Sept 24, 2018 (BSS) – Government officials and public
representatives at a leaflet distribution function at Dimla upazila town in
Nilphamari today stressed on creating public awareness to ensure safe road
and prevent road accidents.

As a part of the nationwide campaign launched as per direction of Prime
Minister Sheikh Hasina recently, the Dimla upazila administration today
distributed awareness building leaflets among over 600 students on the
upazila premises.

Member of the Parliament from Nilphamari-1 constituency Aftab Uddin Sarker
attended the function as the chief guest with Nilphamari Deputy Commissioner
Begum Nazia Shirin in the chair.

Dimla Upazila Chairman Tabibul Islam, Upazila Nirbahi Officer Nazmun Nahar
and Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Dimla Thana Mofiz Uddin Sheikh addressed the
function.

The speakers called upon all concerned for abiding by traffic rules and
driving all sorts of vehicles sincerely and carefully to avoid accidents on
the roads and highways.

OC Mofiz Uddin Sheikh said motorcycle drivers and ascenders were found as
the most affected people during motorcycle accidents and most of the
sufferers were found with no helmets on their heads.

“We call upon the motorcycle drivers to use helmets and drivers of other
vehicles to abide by the traffic rules to reduce accidents, casualties and
damages,” he said.

He also thanked the motorcycle drivers for responding positively to the
‘No helmet-no petrol’ initiative launched recently and expressed satisfaction
over the rising number of helmet wearing motorcycle drivers.

The Deputy Commissioner called upon the students of different educational
institutions to know and abide by the traffic rules and owners, drivers and
helpers of vehicles for ensuring fitness of their vehicles and sincerely
abide by traffic rules.

The chief guest said there is no alternative to ensuring proper road
traffic management systems and creating adequate awareness among the common
people as well as owners, drivers and helpers of the vehicles for safe rod by
preventing road accidents.
