DHAKA, Sept 24, 2018 (BSS) – Primary and Mass Education Minister Md
Mostafizur Rahman today said animated character Meena is playing an important
role in different social issues including education, health, stopping early
marriage and establishing equal rights in society.
“Alongside playing positive role in society, cartoon character Meena has
made a significant contribution to increase enrolment of students at schools
and check drop-out rate,” he told a function in the auditorium of Directorate
of Primary Education here, an official release said.
Secretary of Primary and Mass Education Md Akram-Al-Hossain and senior
officials of the ministry, among others, addressed the function with Director
General of Directorate of Primary Education Dr Md Abu Hena Mostafa Kamal in
the chair.
Mostafizur said, “The country has witnessed a remarkable progress in
expansion of primary education as the government has implemented various
initiatives.”
He urged all to extend their cooperation for achieving hundred percent
enrolment at primary level by maintaining its quality.
Children performed at a Meena related cultural function. The function also
included a puppet show and distribution of awards. The government and non-
government organizations have been observing ‘Meena Day’ on September 24
since 1998. Meena is popular as a cartoon character because it is vocal to
establish rights of girl children.
