RANGPUR, Sept 24, 2018 (BSS) – Traditional Boat Race Competition-2018
held at Motahar Hossain Bazar point of the river Saniyazan under Patgram
upazila in Lalmonirhat on Sunday afternoon.
Grassroots level public representatives said they are frequently arranging
competitions of traditional Boat Race (‘Nauka Baich’) that entertains the
common people for centuries in the country.
They added side by side with entertaining the common people of rural
areas, ‘Nauka Baich’ has been reaming as a part and parcel of Bengali
culture, literature and heritage everywhere in riverine Bangladesh.
They came up with the observations at the prize distribution ceremony of
Boat Race Competition-2018.
Four teams of ‘Goddimari Baich Dal’, ‘Hatibandha Baich Dal’,
‘Chowddobari Baich Dal’ and ‘Nawhata Baich Dal’ from Hatibandha and Patgram
upazilas of Lalmonirhat participated in the competition organised by Baura
union parisahd.
Baura union Chairman Abul Kalam Azad Basunia attended the inaugural as
well as prize distribution ceremonies of the competitions as chief guest with
local elite and freedom fighter Alhaj Abdul Jabbar in the chair.
Members of Baura union parishad Shahidul Islam, Abdul Kader, Nargis
Akhter and Rashidul Islam Doyal, among others, addressed the functions, in
presence of thousands of the rural spectators.
Later, awards were distributed among ‘Goddimari Baich Dal’, ‘Chowddobari
Baich Dal’ and ‘Nawhata Baich Dal’ for becoming the champion, runner-up,
second runner up teams respectively in the competitions.
