DHAKA, Sept 23, 2018 (BSS) – The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has intensified its drives against public service providing offices aimed at ensuring corruption and hassle free services.
“We have already intensified drives in public offices to ensure corruption and hassle free services as getting services from the government organizations is a constitutional right of every people,” ACC Chairman Iqbal Mahmood told BSS today.
“We have already conducted over 200 drives at different public service providing offices since introduction of ACC hotline 106 on July 27, 2017,” he said.
The main aim of the drive is to create awareness among the people against corruption, he opined.
About future plan of the drive, he said, “The commission has been conducting drives after receiving specific allegations over its hotline 106. We will conduct the drives the long we will receive such allegations.”
“The drives are being conducted not only in Dhaka, but also in district, upazila and even at grassroots. Many people have got their desired services from public offices following intervention of the ACC. The ACC takes support from the local administration to conduct the drives in some cases,” he continued.
The commission has already conducted drives at Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA), Department of Immigration and Passports, Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council (BMDC), Rajdhani Unnayan Kartipakkha (RAJUK), Shikkha Bhaban, different public hospitals, Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG), Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI), Department of Drug Administration, Government Transport Pool, Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, land offices and different other public offices.
The drives in public offices have emerged as an effective tool to help people get hassle-free services.
” ACC has decided to continue the drives at public offices as it has become an effective tool to ensure hassle-free services by stopping irregularities and corruption at the public offices,” deputy director (public relations) and spokesperson of the commission Pranab Kumar Bhattacharjee said on Saturday.
“The commission has so far conducted over 200 drives to different public offices since October 2017,” he added.
The ACC official said two enforcement teams have been formed to conduct sudden inspections in public offices to prevent bribery. Each of the teams comprises two members and it is headed by an assistant director level officer.
The teams have been entrusted with conducting sudden inspections in public offices to stop bribery and irregularities, he added. The commission has conducted sudden visits to headquarters of Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution, Bangladesh Road Transport Authority.
In this regard, ACC’s DG (admin) and coordinator of the enforcement teams Munir Chowdhury said, “As part of the initiative to ensure the rule of law at the public offices, the ACC has started conducting sudden drives over allegations of corruption received by ACC hotline 106.”
“We must have to ensure uninterrupted services to the people by conducting such sudden drives for making the public offices free from corruption,” he added.
